(Serving Our Awesome Redeemer) Middle/High School Youth Ministry
SOAR is the middle and high school ministry of Desert Foothills Lutheran Church. This youth group seeks to know Christ and make Him known to the greater world around it. SOAR not only wants to deepen its own faith but also become strong advocates and apologists for faith in Jesus Christ to those living in the shadows of our churches that do not know Jesus.
SOAR meets every Sunday at 9:45 AM in the Youth Room of the Fellowship Hall between the 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM services. We are currently studying the Old Testament prophets as we work our way through God’s Holy Word. This is just the beginning of a journey that will take us through the entire Bible over the next three years.
Apologetic is a major part of SOAR. We live in a world that is increasingly hostile to God’s Word as revealed in the Bible. More and more voices are telling us that the Biblical morality we have traditionally stood on is outdated and even hateful. We beg to differ. We will confront the world with the truth of God’s Word and we will do so with the love, grace and servant hood modeled by Jesus. There is no need to be militant, we simply seek to be a “servant of all” as Jesus was. This is the message shared by Pastor Mark, and this is the message modeled by our youth!
Tuesday Night SOAR meetings
In addition to our regular Sunday morning meetings, SOAR meets on alternating Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Our remaining dates for 2017 are Wednesday April 26 and May 10, usually 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Youth Room.
Sunday Soar meets every Sunday morning between services at 9:45 AM in the Youth Room.
We are working our way through the Bible following a three-year plan. Each SOAR gathering on Sunday morning will conclude with singing praise to our Lord in the multipurpose room. This fantastic addition to our worship time is led by Christie Fletcher.
Confirmation for 2018 is in full swing. First year Confirmation students are led by Lori Hansen and second year confirmation students are led by Darren Hansen. Both classes are taking an in-depth look at what it means to be a Christian and how God wants us to live our daily lives.
The first year class is focusing on the Ten Commandments, Apostle’s Creed and the Lord’s Prayer in great detail. The second year class is looking at the sacraments of baptism and holy communion, confession and absolution, the Old Testament books of history, poetry and prophesy and the New Testament Gospels.
The second year class will be confirmed into full membership at DFLC on Sunday, May 20, 11 am service.
